Atharv’s Fairytale Romance: A Stunning Austrian Escape with Thrillophilia
It all started with a nervous smile and a gift-wrapped envelope. “What’s this?” she asked, raising an eyebrow as I handed it to her.
Inside was a ticket to Vienna, the start of a week-long escape to Austria I had planned as a surprise before we tied the knot. “We’re going to Austria?” she exclaimed, eyes lighting up. The look on her face was priceless, a mix of disbelief, joy, and pure excitement.

Austria, with its fairytale landscapes, cosy towns, and romantic vibes, seemed like the perfect destination.
So, if you are wondering if Austria is the perfect place for a romantic getaway- let me break it down into five key reasons for you to consider!
Dramatic Alpine Summits
One of the highlights of our trip was the breathtaking Alpine scenery that Austria is so famous for. Our first stop was Innsbruck, a charming city nestled in the heart of the Alps. We decided to take a cable car up to the top of the Nordkette mountain range.
The view from the top was nothing short of spectacular. Snow-capped peaks surrounded us, and the world below felt so tiny. Priya stood there, in awe, her breath taken away by the beauty. “This is way more beautiful than how I imagined it,” she said, wrapping her arms around me.
We spent hours just walking along the trails, taking in the views and snapping photos. There was something magical about the crisp mountain air and the quiet that surrounded us. It felt like the whole world had paused just for us. For couples looking for a blend of adventure and tranquility, the Alps offer the perfect escape.
Art, Music & Culture
If you are a couple who appreciate art, culture, and history like us, head to Vienna. The city, with its elegant architecture, felt like stepping into a grand, living museum. We spent an afternoon wandering through the Schönbrunn Palace, admiring its grandeur and the lush gardens that surrounded it. Priya was especially taken with the gardens. “It feels like we’re walking through a painting,” she said, and I couldn’t help but agree.
Later, we visited the State Opera House. She wore a beautiful navy blue dress and I, well, I wore a tux for my lady! As we walked through the grand hall, I could feel the magic of Vienna’s musical heritage.
We were lucky enough to catch a performance that evening. There’s nothing quite like experiencing world-class music in such a historic setting. As the music filled the hall, we shared a quiet, intimate moment, holding hands, lost in the beauty of it all.
Sweet Treats & Coffee
It’s no secret that Austria is famous for its sweet treats, and we made sure to indulge in it. Our mornings always started with coffee at one of Vienna’s classic cafés. We’d sit by the window, watching the world go by, sipping on rich coffee and enjoying pastries like apfelstrudel and sachertorte.
I remember Priya’s first bite of sachertorte- she was so delighted that she gave me a playful side-eye. “Oh my god, what is this…? This is delicious!” she exclaimed, and I just laughed.
One of our most memorable experiences was visiting a traditional Viennese coffeehouse, where it felt like stepping back in time. The atmosphere was warm, the coffee was literally perfect, and the desserts were heavenly. It was the ideal place to sit back, relax, and enjoy each other’s company. If you're a couple with a sweet tooth, Austria’s cafés and patisseries will definitely win you over.
Serene Countryside
Coming to my favourite part of the trip- Austria’s serene countryside, a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
After exploring Vienna, we decided to take a scenic drive through the rolling hills and charming villages of the Austrian countryside. We stopped in small towns along the way, discovering little shops and enjoying the peaceful, slow-paced life.
We found ourselves in the picturesque village of Hallstatt, a place that looked like something straight out of a postcard. The town was nestled beside a pristine lake, with towering mountains reflecting in the water.
Priya and I took a boat ride across the lake, just the two of us, enjoying the serenity of the moment. "This is pure peace," she whispered with her eyes closed, as if soaking it all in. The countryside in Austria is perfect for couples looking to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Winter Sports
For the more adventurous couples, Austria’s winter sports scene is second to none. On our second day in Innsbruck, we decided to try our hand at skiing. Priya was a little nervous at first, but I reassured her that we’d take it slow. After a few lessons, she was zipping down the slopes, laughing all the way.
It was such a fun experience. We had some falls, a lot of laughs, and plenty of “oops” moments, but it was all part of the fun.
“I think I’m officially addicted to skiing!” Priya declared, after her first successful run. Whether you’re experienced or a beginner, Austria’s ski resorts offer something for everyone. For adventurous couples, hitting the slopes is the ultimate bonding experience.
- Whether you're an adventure-seeking duo or a laid-back pair, Austria is bound to be the perfect getaway, just like it was for us! So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, surprise your partner, and let Austria sweep you off your feet!
