Amore & Adventure: Chandini’s Honeymoon Trip to Spain and Italy with Thrillophilia
On our way to the hotel room, my beloved husband asks me to open the door.
The moment I opened the door and stepped in, I was greeted by a shower of rose petals. It was the perfect fairytale moment for me and never had I expected my husband to be this romantic. I stood there for a minute, waiting for the last petal to fall.
I looked at him with surprise and asked, “How did you manage to do this?”
He interrupted, “Uh-uh, there’s more!”’
I walked inside and to my surprise the entire room was beautifully decorated. A huge ‘Congratulations’ banner was on the wall behind our bedhead. The room was filled with a sweet fragrance because of the rose petals everywhere. On top of the table, there was a bottle of champagne, a gorgeous bouquet, a small cake, a congratulations card and two glasses.
Now this was too much of a surprise for me. I could not believe that my husband arranged all this, that too, in a hotel room in Florence. A place far away from home, where nobody knows us.
Honeymooning in España!
Our journey started from Barcelona, as both of us are football enthusiasts and die-hard Lionel Messi fans. We had customised our package to include Camp Nou as our first attraction. It is ‘The Famous’ football stadium of Barcelona and seeing it in-person was nothing less than a dream come true.
Some other places that we included in our sightseeing tour of Barcelona were Casa Batlló, Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, Cathedral of Barcelona and Basílica de la Sagrada Família.
But, what I loved the most about this beautiful city was its architecture, friendly people and definitely the delicious food.
We also did a short tour of our rival city- Madrid. Well, what can we say, it was as beautiful as any other city of Spain. We were amazed to see how beautiful and grand the Royal Palace of Madrid was. Not to forget, Temple of Debod was another place worth visiting which was an Egyptian temple, full of fascinating history.
We also loved our short day trip to Toledo. Not going to lie, but it has the best historical monuments and architecture that will surely leave you speechless. What I personally loved the most about this city was that it had a more scenic and soothing charm to it.
All the way from Spain to Italy!
I still cannot decide which one was better, Spain or Italy? I guess both these countries have their own charm and stand no comparison at all.
Our amazing tour of Italy started from the capital city of Rome. Oh! How beautiful it was!
Starting from the ancient walls to cobblestone streets, breathtaking architecture and lush green spaces, Rome was perfect. We explored the most popular attractions like the Colosseum, Triveni Fountain and Roman Forum. The best experience was when my husband and I held our hands, made our wishes and threw a coin in the Triveni Fountain- the miraculous fountain.
Next, we travelled to Florence, just another marvellous gem of Italy. Here, we did a lot of fun things like witnessing sunset from the iconic Piazzale Michelangelo, relaxing in the beautiful Bardini Gardens and going on a wine tasting tour for the first time ever. We also did a wholesome sightseeing tour after which my husband surprised me when we returned to our hotel. (PS: I am still smiling and blushing while writing about it!)
From Florence, we enjoyed a fun bike trip to Tuscany. This was one beautiful day when we had no strict itinerary, just two rented bikes and our own freedom to go wherever we wanted. It was a really fun and scenic bike trip through the narrow lanes, rural landscapes and stunning lakes.
We spent our last day in Italy exploring the beautiful Venice. It is a picturesque city that looks straight out of a Disney movie. There are water canals everywhere and the main mode of transport is a boat- how fun is that! So, yes, we enjoyed boating in Venice , but the most memorable moment was when we got to witness a breathtaking sunset while we were on a boat. We even enjoyed a fun gondola ride from the Rialto Bridge, from where we could enjoy really stunning panoramic views of Venice.
A Day in Vatican City!
If you are thinking that our trip ended here, well, you are wrong! After our memorable trip in Italy, we proceeded towards our next and final stop, the Vatican City.
It is not a very big country, so one day is enough to explore the Vatican. Our tour started by visiting the famous Vatican Museum. The museum was the definition of ‘Grand’!
Inside the museum, we got to see so many beautiful statues, paintings and sculptures. At the Sistine Chapel, we got to see Michaelangelo’s world renowned fresco, ‘The Last Judgement’. We even climbed St. Peter’s Basilica from where we could overlook the entire Vatican City.
Trip Down Memory Lane!
“So it was Ayush who arranged everything for that surprise, wasn't it?” I asked my husband, remembering the wonderful surprise my husband gave me.
“Ayush?” he asks.
“Yes, that customer representative guy from Thrillophilia!” I replied.
“Your husband arranged for the surprise by calling Ayush and explaining everything to him in detail. He then called the local decorators of Florence who decorated the room for you, if that’s what you mean!” he replied being annoyed seeing I gave his credit to someone else.
I laughed and assured him, “Yes, that’s what I meant. Thank you for the lovely surprise though. I really did not expect any of it, especially when we were so far away from India.”
He added with a big smile, “Well! My travel buddy, Thrillophilia, was there to help me out!”
