Broadening Horizons- Harigopal's Fascinating Rajasthan Vacation
As Harigopal planned her fifth Rajasthan vacation with her husband, she knew exactly what she wanted to explore.
The couple, with their years of experience, had already done a lot of research before contacting Thrillophilia. And, their previous experience of touring Banswara, Mount Abu, Ranthambore, and Jaipur came in handy when they selected Thrillophilia’s Jodhpur-Jaisalmer package.
They wanted to explore another side of Rajasthan- they wished to witness the distinct charm that still awaited their attention despite their multiple trips to the State of the Kings.
For them, Rajasthan was much more than a desert region, it was arguably one of India’s most ancient lands. With centuries of dynasties and civilisations originating and thriving here, the couple knew that it had an unparalleled cultural and historical imprint.
And that is precisely why, exploring this place so deeply has always been rewarding for them no matter the season or temperature.
A Treat of Cultural, History, and Heritage
Their four-day trip started from Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort.
The intricate Marwari architecture took Harigopal’s breath away. The architectural designs and structures that keep the massive fort cool even in peak summer, along with the ancient Chamunda Mata Mandir, fascinated the couple. The stunning panoramic views of the blue city of Jodhpur from the fort ramparts were nothing less than magnificence redefined.
But they had one question, why was it the blue city?
As their guide explained, the city was painted blue to help keep the houses cool. Such little yet significant details by the couple stunned. They had a feeling that this trip would change their existing visions and broaden their perspectives.
Harigopal’s favourite things about Rajasthan were the vibrant puppets and decorated camels, and she was glad to find both on this trip. While the puppets reminded her of the skilled artistry and talent of puppeteering among locals, she found the camels simply adorable.
Camels are rare in Jodhpur, so she waited till she got to Jaisalmer to marvel at these unique creatures. In fact, the highlight of their Jaisalmer visit was a long camel ride and camp stay in the heart of the Sam Dunes.
What made the experience better for her were Thrillophilia’s careful arrangements to ensure the camps were comfortable. The team also organised an authentic Rajasthani dinner and folk show of Kalbeliya to enhance the couple’s experience to a different level.
Since Harigopal’s focus was on the artistic and cultural elements, she loved spotting musicians in colourful turbans playing traditional instruments on the sightseeing tour, especially while touring the Golden Fort and the Havelis of Jaisalmer. The enthusiastic couple also captured several videos of the folk performers as they were awed by the real-time experience. Not to miss the beautiful designs of the houses of Jaisalmer, which gave off an authentic essence of travelling in Rajasthan.
She said, “To appreciate real art, always start from the roots – I have always stood by this motto, being a theatre artist myself”.
To Warm Hospitality and Lovely Food
For the couple, what made the four-day tour worth it were the friendly locals they met throughout their visit. They were grateful for the efficiency and warmth of the drivers and tour guides who accompanied them on the tour.
They also appreciated the comprehensive tour plan that covered so much in such a short period. Each day of the tour was planned meticulously to ensure they did not miss out on any of their preferred experiences.
If the highlight of Jodhpur was the lavish Mehrangarh Fort, Jaisalmer’s beauty was centred around the mud houses inspired by the Golden Fort. Patwon ki Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli, and the mesmerising Gadisar Lake were their favourite attractions in the city. The couple was absolutely in awe of the local cuisine as well, which they tried both at Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.
Harigopal explained to us while giving the feedback for the review that she personally LOVED the Rabri Ghewar and Mirchi Vada in Jodhpur. She also suggested the Gulab Jamun ki Sabzi for an off-beat culinary experience.
In Jaisalmer, Laal Maas and Hara Maas were the ultimate non-vegetarian delights, while vegetarian dishes ranged from Ker Sangri and Gatte ki Sabzi. Of course, Dal Baati Churma was something they could not miss out on!
Redefining Travel
Rajasthan, for Harigopal, was an abode of surprises, even after five memorable vacations across the state. Thanks to Thrillophilia, from prebooked accommodations and knowledgeable tour guides to sightseeing tours that catered to their preferences, everything matched their needs and demands.
Their personal experiences and research also helped the team design a package that covered every aspect of Rajasthan’s cultural diversity. This was their first time travelling with Thrillophilia, and as ardent travel lovers, they were absolutely impressed with the experience.
She and her husband still plan to come back all over again to explore another side of the ‘Land Of Kings’, and gain many more new experiences. Her motto for travelling the state is to take as much time and money as it requires so that she doesn’t miss out on anything.
Rajasthan consistently ranks among Harigopal’s most favourite travel destinations as she believes that,“The place makes you vibe to its ambience, and that is why the heart years to come here again and again”.
