Jahnvi’s Dreamy Netherlands Escape with Thrillophilia
After a week-long romantic movie marathon right before our anniversary led me to the idea of celebrating our anniversary in the Netherlands!
My husband and I watched a film that featured the beautiful canals of Amsterdam, and I couldn't stop thinking how magical it would be to experience it in real life. This year, I was done with the usual cake cutting and dinner dates. Instead, I wanted something extraordinary, something that would stay with us forever.
I turned to my husband and asked, “How about we celebrate our anniversary in the Netherlands?”
To my surprise, he was totally on board! Before I knew it, we were both scrolling through Thrillophilia’s website, trying to find out the best Netherlands package for us. After finalising the perfect package, we prepared ourselves for the best trip of our lives!
Magical Moments on Amsterdam’s Canals
Our journey began with a canal cruise in Amsterdam, and it truly felt like stepping into the same movie scene that we had watched together. The weather was perfect, a slight breeze in the air, and the sun bidding us farewell, casting a magical orange hue over the water.
"Look at this," I said to him as we passed by the colourful houses lining the canals. "It’s like watching a live painting, isn't it?"
We shared a smile as we drifted under those charming bridges, watching locals sip their coffee at cafes by the water. The reflections of the buildings and trees on the canal made everything feel so peaceful, like we were in a dream. I just wanted to stay there forever, cruising through the heart of Amsterdam, feeling like the luckiest person alive.
A Dose of Art at the Van Gogh Museum
The next day, we visited the Van Gogh Museum. Being a painter myself, I had always wanted to see some of his masterpieces up close. As we wandered through the galleries, I found myself lost in the brushstrokes of "Sunflowers" and "Starry Night." We sat in front of a painting for a while, just admiring the beautiful pieces in front of us and soaking in the atmosphere.
We took our time, savouring each art piece as well as each other's company. There was something so special about being surrounded by Van Gogh's vibrant colours with the love of your life.
A Day in Paradise
Our anniversary took a whole new level when we went on a day trip to Keukenhof Gardens. When we finally saw the enchanting tulip gardens, we were left absolutely speechless. It was everything I dreamed of– and more.
"Wow, look at those tulips," he said, pointing to a field of deep purple ones. "If only I could get you a bouquet this big."
Walking through the vibrant sea of flowers felt like we were in a fairytale. I was a Disney princess and he was my prince charming. The tulips were in full bloom, painting the landscape in shades of red, yellow, purple, and pink. We spent hours there, simply enjoying a romantic stroll and soaking in the magical ambiance.
As we walked deeper into the garden, we stumbled upon a small yet a very gorgeous lake. It felt surreal to be surrounded by so much beauty, but what made it even better was sharing it with him.
A Glimpse into Dutch Traditions!
It was a short trip to Zaanse Schans that truly made us realise how beautiful and vibrant Dutch culture is!
For those who don’t know, Zaanse Schans is a small picturesque village, famous for its windmills. And my god, those giant windmills were a beauty! As we walked on, we admired how the windmills were spinning gently by the breeze. Furthermore, we explored the traditional Dutch houses, watched the local artisans at work, and even learned how the famous wooden clogs are made.
The highlight was when we climbed to the top of one of the windmills, and from up there, we had an incredible view of the Dutch countryside. We were absolutely stunned to see the lush green fields that stretched as far as the eye could see. It was a peaceful, quiet escape from the world, and I loved every second of it.
Rotterdam– A City of Surprises!
Finally, we ended our trip in Rotterdam. Contrary to Amsterdam, Rotterdam had a modern vibe, a lively culture with striking architecture and a youthful energy. It was our leisure day which we chose to spend by simply walking through the city, admiring the impressive buildings and enjoying lunch at one of the local cafés.
"How do you like Rotterdam?" I asked, taking a huge bite of a Dutch pancake.
He smiled. "It’s different, but in a good way. Feels fresh, just like us."
He continued, sipping on his chocolate drink, “I think all the destinations that we explored were pretty amazing. All thanks to you for bringing up this amazing idea to celebrate our anniversary.”
While finishing his drink, he said, “Let’s make this a tradition– a new destination, every anniversary!”
We both smiled, looking at each other and already planning the next destination for our next anniversary!
