A traveller is a seeker of history, culture, nature, and memories. The same is true for Kaushik, working in a corporate world while dreaming about faraway lands. His soul is drawn to the adventure of discovering new places, and after years of travelling solo, he finally decided it was time to share his passion with the ones he loves most. So, he planned a surprise trip for his parents and better half.

Excited, Kaushik began researching countries and landmarks for the trip. Knowing his father’s love for nature and peaceful surroundings, he decided the journey should have luxury, relaxation, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Kaushik had long been captivated by the breathtaking beauty of Norway and Finland, often daydreaming about the rugged landscapes and the thrill of crossing the Arctic Circle. After researching numerous travel packages, Kaushik connected with the team at Thrillophilia. The Architectural Beauty of Helsinki

The first and foremost stop was Helsinki, an architecturally beautiful town with a rich history and beautiful views. For Kaushik and his family, Helsinki proved to be a perfect blend of historic charm and modern architecture. They visited the famous Helsinki Cathedral and the Old Market Hall. The old-school market had a unique charm and they wandered through a maze of shops selling local treats, fresh produce, and handmade goods. They took the architectural walking tour which deepened their appreciation for the city. They witnessed the elegant Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) buildings, minimalist modernist structures, and sleek glass facades that left everyone awestruck.

The Journey Through Winter Wonderland

One of the most memorable times for Kaushik and his family was the train ride from Helsinki to Rovaniemi. The Santa Claus Express, a special overnight train, became the highlight of their trip. The train travelled through the snowy Finnish landscape, it passed through scenic hills and charming towns. It was impossible not to feel enchanted!. They could feel the presence of nature’s magic all around. The four of them enjoyed a hearty time laughing, sharing stories, and admiring the landscapes. It became a memorable journey enveloped in beauty and comfort.

The Storybook Experience

Upon reaching Rovaniemi, they were greeted by the magical world of Santa Claus Village. It felt like stepping into a storybook that they used to read when they were kids. Kaushik’s parents were especially thrilled, as it was a completely new experience for them. There was Santa Claus, and his elves dancing around, and the buildings looked magical, with food carts and glowing cafes everywhere—truly a festive village of wonder.

Kaushik and his wife couldn’t contain their excitement when they saw all the desserts displayed in the cafes calling them. They savoured every bite of the mouthwatering treats and also had the chance to visit the unique Ice Bar and Snow Restaurant, an icy wonderland with delicious food and drinks. adventure.

And the moment Kaushik had been waiting for so long, finally came - Crossing the Arctic Circle. A small ceremony marked the milestone, and he was given a certificate to commemorate the occasion.

The Mesmerising Sognefjord Cruise

The adventure then took them to Norway, where the breathtaking landscapes of the fjords awaited. They embarked on a scenic Sognefjord Cruise, one of the most unforgettable experiences of the trip. Surrounded by towering cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and lush green slopes, it felt as though they were gliding through a painting. The fjord gave them the perfect backdrop for photography and the scenic beauty left all of them in awe of Norway.  They had a great time on the cruise, enjoying the stunning views from the Bergen and Flam rail journeys. And, the final part, cruising through the world’s longest fjord, was quite magnificent.

For Kaushik, the highlight of the cruise wasn’t just the beauty of the landscape but the priceless moments spent with his family.

The Postcard Island

Lofoten proved to be a completely different place from everything they had seen before in Finland and Norway. The weather was milder, and the landscape more lush and verdant, with deep green hills and sparkling waters. They stayed in the picturesque fishing village of Å—one of the most unique places Kaushik had ever visited. The cabin they stayed in was nestled right by the fjord, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and waters.

Lofoten felt like a living postcard, picturesque and full of life. The community was welcoming, the food delicious, especially the fresh seafood, and the whole place exuded a sense of timelessness. Kaushik’s father, who had grown up in a village surrounded by nature, was deeply moved by the experience.

It reminded him of his roots, but in a setting so much more breathtaking. He took a long stroll by himself admiring the village’s beauty and he also asked a local chef to teach him how to cook the famous Lofoten stockfish dish served with vegetables.

Tranquill Norwegian Islands

The final stretch of their Norwegian adventure took them to the island of Svolvær, where they enjoyed one of the most surreal experiences of the trip—whale watching. Kaushik’s family was in absolute wonder, talking about the experience long after they returned. From there, they travelled to Tromsø, a small, picturesque village encircled by mountains. The most fun time in the village was the Fjellheisen Cable Car, which took them to the top of Mount Storsteinen for stunning views of Tromsø and its fjords.

It was time to say goodbye and as they made their way back home, Kaushik found himself reflecting on the journey, the memories they made, the beauty they witnessed, and the quality time they spent together would remain in their hearts forever.
