Through Timeless Charms: Krish Murali’s Europe Trip Review with Thrillophilia
Krish Murali wasn’t new to travelling. He had flown across continents for business meetings and conferences. But this trip was different, it was purely for leisure…
… a long-awaited vacation with his wife.
It all started during one of their late-night conversations. Krish had just wrapped up a long day of meetings, and his wife looked at him with a smile.
"Krish," she said softly, "I think we need to take some time for ourselves."
Krish nodded, knowing she was right. The stress of work had been building up, and their time together had been limited.
"Let’s do it. Let’s explore Europe together," Krish finally said.
And the night turned into a memorable one.
To the Old-World Charm of Europe
Krish and his wife landed in Amsterdam on October 25th, greeted by crisp autumn air. The city had an enchanting vibe, with its narrow canals and picturesque bridges. That evening, they embarked on a serene canal cruise, gliding past illuminated houses as their reflections danced on the water.
The romance in the air was contagious, there were several couples enjoying their time, while Krish and his wife were relishing the quality time sitting at the banks of the canals and while strolling across the bridges.
The next day, they ventured out to explore the Dutch countryside. Zaanse Schans, with its iconic windmills, transported them back in time. The quaint villages of Edam, Volendam, and Marken felt untouched by time. As they walked through cobbled streets and tasted local cheese, his wife turned to Krish with a smile,
“This is exactly what I imagined Europe to be – full of mystery.”
After soaking in Amsterdam’s charm, they travelled to Brussels. The city had a different feel – more modern, yet with an unmistakable air of European elegance. They spent a leisurely day exploring the ornate architecture of the iconic Grand Place. Krish marvelled at the intricate designs of the buildings, snapping pictures now and then, while his wife couldn’t stop shopping at the city’s famous chocolate shops, sampling flavours she had never heard of before.
"This reminds me of why I needed this break, I can feel my bones heave sighs of relief", Krish said.
His wife chuckled. "And no emails to check from clients, Thank God!"
Journeys to Cherish Together
The next leg of their journey took them to Cologne.
The train journey from Brussels to Cologne left them stunned, in a good way. The tour of the European countryside was nothing like they had imagined before. The vistas seemed to come our straight out of a painting, with herds grazing on the stretches of grasslands and with little houses situated here and there, with smoke from the chimney making their presence prominent.
After reaching, they could catch the stunning sight of the Cologne Cathedral, its twin spires towering over the city. The panoramic city cruise gave them a fresh perspective of the Rhine River, with the mediaeval castles and cathedrals dotting the landscape.
Krish couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude. "It’s like history is unfolding before us."
They spent the next day exploring the city on a hop-on-hop-off bus, hopping off at landmarks and learning about its culture.
It was a city that had one foot in the past and another firmly in the present.
Berlin was their next stop, and it was unlike anything they’d seen before. The city had a certain energy, an air of resilience despite its turbulent history. Krish was drawn to the stories of the Berlin Wall and how it had divided a city and a country. His wife, on the other hand, was fascinated by the art scene- it was no joke to spend almost 4 hours in the East Side Gallery.
"This city has so much history," Krish said as they walked along the wall. "It feels heavy, but in a way that makes you appreciate how far it’s come."
His wife nodded. "It’s a city of survival, even the artworks say so."
A Fairytale Come to Life
From Berlin, they journeyed to Prague, a city that felt straight out of a fairytale. As they sailed along the Vltava River on an evening cruise, the city’s mediaeval architecture glowed under the moonlight. The sight of Prague Castle standing tall above the city made Krish’s wife stare in wonder.
The next day, they explored Prague further, visiting the famous Charles Bridge, the Old Town Square, and of course, Prague Castle, and finally wrapping up the day with some mouthwatering local delicacies.
“Every corner of this city feels like it’s from a different century,” Krish remarked. “It’s like we’re time travelling.”
Their final destination was Budapest, where the Danube River became the centrepiece of attraction. A sightseeing cruise with a welcome drink set the tone for their time in the city. The illuminated bridges and grand buildings lining the river created a picture-perfect scene.
“This is the perfect end to our journey,” his wife said, raising her glass to Krish.
As their European adventure came to an end, Krish and his wife found themselves remembering everything they had experienced. From the canals of Amsterdam to the romance of Budapest, every city had left its mark on them. They had laughed, explored, and made memories that would last a lifetime.
“This wasn’t just a vacation,” Krish said as they prepared to fly back to Chennai. “It was a reminder of why we do what we do. To live, to experience, to enjoy the beauty of the world.”
His wife smiled, taking his hand. “And I’m so glad we did it together.”
