Nestled in the northeast of India, Meghalaya is a gem of a place where tranquillity meets thrill, offering the best of both worlds.
Madhumita Ganga, a businesswoman from Bangalore, embarked on a journey to this stunning destination with her friend, and what an experience it turned out to be!
With Thrillophilia handling all the arrangements, the duo was in for an adventure packed with stunning sights, unique experiences, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel right at home.
The First Impressions…
What was the first thing that struck them? Less crowd. Isn't that a rarity in today’s world?
Madhumita and her friend had the space to truly absorb the beauty around them without the usual hustle and bustle. And the locals? Well, they were welcoming, adding more sweetness and warmth to this charming destination.
Thrillophilia played a massive role in this seamless experience. From the get-go, they were prompt and professional. Madhumita didn't have a single second thought about booking with them. They ensured that every detail was taken care of, especially the stays.
Now, being two women travelling alone, safety was a priority, and Thrillophilia delivered, quite promisingly. The girls were provided with a knowledgeable and professional driver who not only guided them throughout the trip but also added to their safety and comfort.
A Journey Through Shillong and Beyond
Here’s the thing about Shillong - it is often called the 'Scotland of the East.'
You can only wonder why until you see it for yourself! The lush hills, crisp mountain air, and views of Umiam Lake en route surely set the mood for the adventure that awaited the two travellers.
In Shillong, the local market was abuzz with tourists and locals alike, serving them the perfect spot for a relaxing stroll. The vibrant colours, the smell of regional delicacies and the hint of cold in the air - sure seemed like Madhumita and her friend had an evening worth remembering!
They started the next morning with a delicious breakfast before heading off to Cherrapunjee, a land known for its stunning waterfalls and mystical caves. The Mawkdok Dympep ViewPoint was their first stop, offering a panoramic view that left them both in awe.
But, it did not end there, as both Wei Sawdong Falls and Nohkalikai Falls had their own story to tell. This is where they found cascading waters, lush green surroundings, and a sense of serenity that is hard to find anywhere else.
Their itinerary included other natural marvels too. Madhumita and her friend ended up visiting Mawsmai Cave, Seven Sisters’ Falls, Elephant Falls, Garden of Caves, and Arwah Caves as well. It is almost like nature decided to showcase its best work right here in Meghalaya.
Wandering through Meghalaya’s Wonders
Now, who doesn't love a good hike, especially surrounded by lush greenery? And when the destination is as iconic as Nongriat’s Double Decker Root Bridges, the trek is bound to be an adventure of a kind!
Madhumita and her friend started from Tyrna village, and the trek was nothing short of exhilarating. Sure, climbing 3000 steps sounds daunting, but the sight of the root bridge made every step worth it. They even considered extending the hike to Rainbow Falls, but sometimes it is best to leave something for the next trip, right?
Next up was Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village. It is amazing to see how this small village sets an example for the world. Clean streets, blooming flowers, and smiling faces—it was like stepping into a different world. After visiting the Single Decker Living Root Bridge in Riwai village and the Balancing Rock, they headed to Dawki.
Now, here’s where the real magic happened. Boating on the crystal-clear waters of Umngot River was like floating on glass. You could see the riverbed as if there were no water at all!
Adventures and Serenity
An adrenaline-filled adventure is something that adds thrill to a trip. For Madhumita and her friend, they surely indulged. From kayaking and boating to zip-lining and cliff jumping, you name it, they did it!
Their playground was the East Khasi Hills, and they were absolutely soaked in the excitement. Another highlight for the girls was the Krang Suri Waterfalls, a natural pool so inviting that they couldn’t help but dive in! They swam in the cool waters, feeling refreshed and connected with nature, in a way that is quite rare in our busy everyday lives.
All good things must come to an end, but not without leaving a mark. Their last day was spent reminiscing about the journey as they headed back to Guwahati. A complimentary visit to the Kamakhya Temple was the cherry on top. Madhumita and her friend returned home with memories to cherish and stories to tell.
Thrillophilia had made this journey - flawless. They felt safe and well cared for throughout. For two women exploring the unknown, this meant the world. It wasn't just a trip; it was a liberating experience, a chance to step out and embrace the beauty of the world without a speck of worry.
A Note to Fellow Travelers
Travelling is more than just the places you visit. It is also the experiences you gather, the people you meet and the stories you take back home. For Madhumita and her friend, Meghalaya was a serene reminder that there are many wonders in the world waiting to be explored.
