Peaks, Peace and Partnership: Mr. Rajneesh’s Review of Bhutan Trip with Thrillophilia

After decades of juggling career and family, Mr. Rajneesh and his wife, in their 50s, decided it was time to prioritise themselves. For their 25th wedding anniversary, Rajneesh wanted to surprise his wife with something better than a fancy dinner. He wanted to give her an experience, a meaningful escape from the hustle of daily routine. After days of research and intense discussions, the couple chose Bhutan, a place that is as calm and endearing as their bond. The idea of celebrating their silver jubilee amidst snow-clad peaks and peaceful monasteries appealed to them.
They approached Thrillophilia to help plan their trip, including itineraries, flights, accommodation and local sightseeing. With bags packed and passports in hand, the couple was all set for their vacation to Bhutan. As the flight took off, Rajneesh’s wife held his hand and said, “I can’t wait for this trip to begin”.
The Gateway to Bhutan

Upon their arrival at Siliguri, the driver from Thrillophilia welcomed them at the airport and drove them to Phuentsholing. As they entered the kingdom of the Eastern Himalayas, he shouted with excitement, “I am so happy.”
After check-in, Rajneesh and his wife decided to explore the city by themselves. Their first stop was the Bhutan Gate, a stunning piece of architecture that stands as the gateway to serenity. Looking at these vintage Bhutanese designs and detailed wooden carvings, “how intricate”, Rajneesh said in amazement. After clicking a few pictures at the Gate, they rested for a while in the lush garden near the Gate.
Zangto Pelri Lhakhang and Karbandi Monastery were the next stops. “Rajneesh, I can stay here forever”, exclaimed his wife as she soaked in the peaceful aura of the place. Taking in the colourful flags, prayer wheels, and holy chants, she said, “I am at peace.”
In the evening, they went to Torsa Riverside for a leisurely stroll by the riverbank, which made them reminisce about the tender, romantic moments they had in their youth.
Views and Vibes at Thimphu

They then drove through winding roads to Thimphu, the scenic views of the lush green valleys and snow-capped mountains mesmerised them. On reaching their hotel, they decided to relax and spend the day at leisure. This much-needed downtime rejuvenated the couple after all the travel.
On the suggestion of the locals, Mr. Rajneesh and his wife visited the Simply Bhutan Interactive Museum. The couple enjoyed taking part in all the cultural activities with childlike enthusiasm. While Mr. Rajneesh tried his hand at archery and kuru, his wife learned a few traditional songs and dances. The photo session dressed like the Bhutanese people in Gho and Kira was their favourite part.
The couple then visited the Royal Botanical Garden and were enthralled by the beauty of nature. Hand in hand, they walked through the garden, capturing not just photographs, but timeless memories that will stay with them forever.
In the evening, they drove to Sangaygang View Point and witnessed a breathtaking panoramic view of the Thimphu Valley. The sunset behind the mountains painted everything in hues of orange.
The next day was planned for sightseeing, with places like the National Memorial Chorten and Tashichho Dzong giving them a cultural and local understanding of the region. A shopping spree at the Handicraft market gave them a chance to buy keepsakes, traditional clothes and gifts for friends and family.
Hiking Through the Hills

As day four dawned, it was time to head to Paro. After check-in, the couple wanted to explore the city, and they visited Paro Chhu, Zuri Dzong Fort and Chele La Pass.
The next day, Thrillophilia arranged an adventurous hike to Tiger’s Nest. Perched on a cliffside above Paro Valley, the monastery seems to float among the clouds. The hike was quite demanding for Mr. Rajneesh and his wife, but the enchanting views of pine forests, fluttering prayer flags, and misty mountains made it worthwhile. Along the way, they saw small chortens and prayer wheels and took breaks wherever they were tired. Reaching the monastery felt like an achievement for them, not just physically, but emotionally. As they entered the monastery, they felt a sense of calmness that made their efforts rewarding.
The following day, they went back to Phuentsholing. They spent the entire day chit-chatting, sipping hot coffee with a view of the Himalayan peaks and going through pictures they snapped on this trip. In the evening, Mrs. Rajneesh wanted to go shopping in the local markets of Phuentsholing. She bought souvenirs, wooden handicrafts, and woollen clothing.
A Happy Farewell

With hearts full of memories and spirits beautifully rejuvenated, it was finally the day of departure, and the couple was ready to go back home. While they expected to see snow-clad mountains and stunning views, Bhutan allowed them to reconnect and celebrate their love. Going with Thrillophilia turned out to be the right choice as they could just relax and not worry about flight tickets or hotel bookings. As they boarded the flight, Mr. Rajneesha and his wife made a pact to take a trip like this every year.
