A Saga of the Perfect Honeymoon- Prashansa’s Review of The Andamans Trip

We did not want snow, we did not want mountains.
We did not want deserts, we did not want rivers.

We wanted vast expanses of oceans and greenery, as far as our eyesight could capture.

It was our honeymoon trip, and by the grace of god, the planning was not entirely haywire, thanks to Thrillophilia.

But first, let me start by telling you a little backstory.

We had received honeymoon tickets to the Andaman Islands as our wedding gift from one of our very close relatives. And of course, it took us some time to open the gifts and when we came across these tickets, we were thrilled.

So, packing up the best of our outfits with a wide smile on our faces, we finally prepared for our much-awaited honeymoon trip!

Sheer Happiness
For love, for the trip, and especially for the destination!

What better to indulge in the depths of the sea than to visit an island? That too the Andamans!

We were thrilled by the idea, and we had already planned how to spend our beach time on the flight. Exhilarated and tired, we reached the Port Blair airport to be greeted by our guide for the trip.

The itinerary was short for the day, so we could spend a nice time on the Corbyn Cove beach, swinging in hammocks with the shadows of the coconut trees shading our eyes. There were multiple stalls selling huge coconuts, which we made sure to enjoy.

Everything seemed so surreal, the views of the ocean comforted us. The white powdery sands and the greenery around gave us hope for a fulfilling future. The gusts of wind reminded us of the best moments from our wedding, and we were discussing, just when we spotted an elderly couple walking on the beach, hand in hand, laughing and talking just like we were. In my mind, I gaped at the age difference, but I was mesmerised by the love that resonated from them.

Moving on, we were supposed to head out to the historically famous Cellular Jail. The place gave us goosebumps- the walls still seemed to echo the screams of the freedom fighters of India, refreshing the memory of British oppression and torture. Following the tour, we watched the light and sound show on the history of this very Cellular jail, and by the end of the show we both had tears in our eyes.

The gloomy feeling lingered for quite a long time. It subsided only when we reached our hotel and opened the windows to the spectacular scenery of the beach aglow with moonlight.

We did not realise that it was a full moon, and the view from our window did justice to the beauty of the place, and our eyes were responsible enough to etch this scenery into our minds forever.

The first night of our honeymoon…worth remembering!

No fun and only romance makes a honeymoon dull
We both are die-hard lovers of swimming, so the idea of trying our various water adventure activities at Elephant Beach brought out the excitement in us.

Upon reaching the beach on Havelock Island, we plunged into the sea in one go!

Adventures can wait, let us just enjoy the moment first!

After a long and satisfying swim, we finally opted for the activities. We had it planned- first the scuba diving, then Jet skiing, and finally, parasailing.

Amongst all, we found scuba diving to be the best experience. After half an hour of training, we were taken to a nice spot in the ocean, and then wearing all those heavy gear and swimsuits, we had to jump in the water.

And once we were in,

Our entire world changed.

It felt as if we had entered another dimension altogether, where the plants were more colourful, and the traffic was substituted with schools of millions of fish! And, the traffic was varied, just like we see different cars on the roads, we saw different species of fish swimming without a worry in the world!

There were stingrays and jellyfish, and we even caught sight of starfish lying on the sea bed, living its life to the fullest. This experience made us internally happy, oh, and we even made heart signs with our hands under the water, celebrating our love in our unique way.

Jet Skiing was thrilling, we roamed about in the ocean directionless for an hour. And while parasailing we caught some amazing aerial views of the beach and the island.

The Andamans are a place worth exploring, there will never be a moment where you will feel like leaving this paradise and going back to the mundane city life…just saying…but we surely felt that way.

The Forgotten Song of the Conch Shells
We were on Bharatpur beach, strolling along the seashore during the sunset. The gentle waves were washing over our feet every now and then, but suddenly I found a small conch shell under my feet. I picked it up, brought it close to my ears to hear if it was still alive, and guess what?

It was!

I was so happy, I had never encountered a living conch shell before. My husband got interested too, and he did the same. Looking ahead, we saw that there were many more of these dropped off by the waves as if asking us to indulge in this rare moment and mark our honeymoon trip with something exotic!

All of them were not alive, but the one that was, we brought it back home. Don't worry, we had asked a local fisherman how to keep them alive, and he suggested that we keep them in an aquarium just like fish.

It was perhaps the best souvenir we had gotten from the Andamans, apart from some keyrings and other stuff.

It has been more than a year since we got the conch shell home, and its heart still beats well, just like our love.
