To Fulfilling Dreams: Simerjit’s Family Trip to Dubai with a Sacred Twist
I’ll never forget the moment my mother shared her heartfelt desire to visit Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara during our Dubai trip. It was something she had always dreamed of, and I felt it was my duty to make it happen. However, our carefully planned Thrillophilia itinerary didn’t include a visit to this sacred site.
With only two days left before we were set to leave, I was worried about how to fit this into our packed schedule. And then I called Akansha, from Thrillophilia for this query. To my relief, Akansha responded. “We can absolutely make this work,” she said, “and it won’t cost you extra since it’s conveniently on the way to another stop.”
Her prompt action and the revised itinerary, which arrived within an hour, made me feel like we had achieved a small yet significant victory. That evening, my mother’s halwa was not just a treat; it was a symbol of our success in fulfilling her wish.
Discovering Dubai
Our Dubai adventure kicked off with a visit to the Burj Khalifa. Standing on the observation deck, I was awestruck by the panoramic views of the city and the desert. The experience was far more exhilarating than any photograph could convey.
Another highlight of our trip was the Miracle Garden. As we wandered through the endless rows of colourful blooms, we couldn’t help but let the childlike excitement in us come out to play. We had so much fun riding the four-seater cycles, with my mother leading the way. It was a joyful and carefree experience that perfectly captured the spirit of Dubai.
Every corner of Dubai offered something captivating. From the breathtaking vistas of Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah to the vibrant city streets, each moment was filled with wonder and excitement for us.
Sacred Moments
Finally, we visited the Gurdwara and it was a deeply meaningful experience. The serene atmosphere of the Gurdwara provided us a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of our touristy adventures.
As we stepped into the Gurudwara, we were immediately immersed in its serene and sacred aura. My mother’s eyes lit up with joy, and I could see how much this visit meant to her. We took part in the customary practices, including offering prayers and eating the ‘langar’, which added to the spiritual depth of the experience.
We all read ardaas and just like that we were at peace - an amazing addition to our Dubai trip.
For all of us - it was a moment of connection and reflection, enriching our trip in ways we hadn’t anticipated. This visit not only honoured my mother’s wish but also provided us with a profound sense of fulfilment and peace, making it a highlight of our Dubai journey.
Desert Safari Adventures
The desert safari was one of the most thrilling parts of our journey. We embraced the local tradition by wearing scarves, which protected us from the sun and added a bit of flair to our outfits.
The endless expanse of golden desert sands was absolutely surreal. We must have taken what felt like a zillion photos! My sister and I couldn’t get enough, and that’s when our dad lost his cool.
After snapping countless pictures and enduring a few gentle scoldings from our parents, we finally went to enjoy a camel ride. And wow, what an incredible experience that was!
On the other hand, Our evening in the desert camp was equally magical. We indulged in a delicious BBQ dinner while being entertained by a vibrant Tanoura dance performance. The full moon illuminated the desert, adding a mystical touch to the night. My sister and I stayed up late, marvelling at the stars and the serene beauty of the desert.
Exploring Abu Dhabi
Our adventure took us to Abu Dhabi next, where I discovered a unique kind of beauty. The Grand Mosque stood out as a true masterpiece, with its stunning architecture and serene ambience. It felt like a symbol of respect and peace, much like the calm we had felt earlier at the Gurdwara.
Our last stop was the Global Village, a vibrant marketplace where we picked up unique souvenirs from around the world. From a Kenyan necklace to a Sudanese carpet, it was a wonderful place to find mementoes that captured the essence of our travels.
On our final night in Abu Dhabi, my mother treated us to a special dinner. It was her way of expressing gratitude for making her dream come true. Although she didn’t say “thank you” directly, her gesture spoke volumes about her appreciation.
Thanks Thrillophilia
Reflecting on our Dubai adventure, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences we had.
