From North to South: Mihan’s Solo Trip to New Zealand with Thrillophilia

After amazing backpacking trips across Europe and Asia, Mihan decided to explore New Zealand’s beautiful trails for his next solo adventure.

The trip to New Zealand was more special because of his long-awaited bucket list of adventures. He planned to enjoy stargazing at Mount Cook, visit the famous Hobbiton, try exciting activities like paragliding, and relax in the hot springs in Queenstown. Every experience would be a new and exciting memory in his adventurous journey.

Exploring Auckland & Rotorua

Mihan’s solo exploration of Auckland and Rotorua was a journey of self-discovery and wonder. He wanted to begin his trip at a slow pace and began by wandering through Albert Park, where the lush gardens and historic sculptures provided a peaceful escape in the heart of the city. Strolling along the vibrant streets he enjoyed some street food like avocado salads and delicious banana splits. He then decided to hike to the summit of Mount Eden for a beautiful sunset and city views, and the panoramic view was unimaginable. The sight of the city skyline against the sparkling Waitemata Harbour made the climb worthwhile.

The next day he transferred to Rotorua, a city famous for its natural beauty and geothermal sites. He began his day by visiting the famous Hobbiton movie set and felt like he stepped into a fantasy world, walking through the charming hobbit holes before enjoying a drink at the Green Dragon Inn. His journey then led him to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, where thousands of tiny glowworms lit up the underground like a starry sky. Drifting through the cave on a boat, he was mesmerized by the surreal beauty, a magical end to his day.

A Day of Exploring Natural Wonders

Mihan started his day with excitement as he set off for Waimangu Geothermal Valley. As he arrived, steam rose from the earth, and the smell of sulfur filled the air. He watched in awe as geysers shot hot water into the sky and mud pools bubbled like a giant’s cooking pot.

The most breathtaking sight was the Inferno Crater, its water glowing a bright blue as if it belonged to another world. Fortunately, his guide was full of stories about the valley’s volcanic past. Mihan’s curiosity grew, and soon, they were chatting like old friends. The guide shared secrets of the land, making the experience even more special.

He was super excited about what awaited him next - the Redwood Forest. Walking high above the ground on wooden bridges, he felt tiny among the towering Californian redwoods. His adventurous soul was dancing and he enjoyed the fresh air and the sounds of the forest.

He kept asking the guide about the flora and fauna of the place and got to know how these ancient trees helped the environment, and Mihan listened with fascination. By the end of the day, he had not only explored nature’s wonders but also made a new friend.

Farm Adventure in Queenstown

Ready for another exciting day, Mihan set off for the beautiful Queenstown city. He was not much of a relaxing guy, so as soon as he checked in he went out for a long walk around Moke Lake. The silence, broken only by the sound of birds, made it the perfect spot to click pictures and just chill. His next adventure was at the Brecon Street for the Skyline Gondola Ride. As the gondola climbed higher, the view of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables mountain range became more and more stunning. At the top, Mihan took a deep breath, soaking in the incredible scenery.

The next day, he set off for Walter Peak High Country Farm, where he got a taste of farm life. He laughed as friendly sheep and alpacas came up to him, eager for attention. Watching a sheep-shearing demonstration, he was amazed at the skill involved. This was the day which felt pretty unique and different from his other adventurous experiences, but he loved it! The day ended with a relaxing afternoon tea, enjoying warm scones while gazing at the beautiful mountains.

Skydiving, Stargazing, & Serenity

The moment he was waiting for most was finally here, his adventure in Mount Cook was unforgettable. He started by jumping out of a plane for an exhilarating skydiving experience, free-falling over the snow-capped peaks and turquoise lakes below. The thrill of the jump was unmatched and New Zealand seemed just perfect from a bird’s eye view! Afterwards, he headed to the Pukaki Wine Cellar Observatory for an incredible stargazing experience. The clear night skies revealed a universe of stars, making it feel like he was floating among the constellations.

Finally, Mihan ended his journey in Christchurch, the perfect city to relax and explore. With its mix of modern charm and natural beauty, Christchurch offered a peaceful finale, making it the ideal place to end his solo escapade.
